That’s right, whilst we were all looking at the new Facebook features (and were briefly distracted by Twitters promoted ads in the UK) Google+ decided to go mainstream. How can you tell? Just look at the top users: http://socialstatistics.com/top/people/followers
Hey pop pickers it’s Slam Jam Sam here bringing you the celebrity Google+ entries in today’s chart:

And the top celebrity on Google+ right now is, the one, the only Britney Spears in at number 4!!
Although I’ve made a joke of this it’s actually very important. The critics of Google+ always talked about the limited appeal, the fact that it was only “tech heads” and early adopters on board with little conversation going on. These mainstream celebrities are now making the push to engage with their fan base through Google+. Much like with Twitter, which went on for a while before it was adopted by the mainstream, Google+ appears to be at that tipping point where celebrities are coming across and bringing their fans with them.
This, plus two other pieces of news this week that it has hit 43 million users in just a few days and that brand pages are on the verge of being launched, highlights that now is the time to start thinking about how to best use Google+ for your brand or company in its social and community strategies going forward. The +1 button should also by now be considered as to where it should sit on your outposts. And if you need a helpful over the top stat to get your team in gear it turns out that Google+ traffic went up 1269% last week.
Right now the USA is the dominant country which is why the celebs are US-based and by looking at the list you can see there are still a large number of early adopters and tech fans involved. This isn’t a bad thing by any means but it is worth taking into account.
By the way gamers Felicia Day is at number 12 and Markus Persson is at number 35.
So what are you waiting for, go look at Google+ and see if it fits with your strategies. It’s not for everyone just yet but it is becoming more important and relevant by the day.
Oh and this chart might just explain why Google are working so hard on Google+.
P.S. Those of you who clicked on Tyra Banks’ link apologies, I couldn’t resist. Here is her G+ profile.
