Nielson reported last week the results of their research into trust in advertising. The findings arent that surprising:
Ninety percent or consumers surveyed noted that they trust recommendations from people they know, while 70 percent trusted consumer opinions posted online.
They go on to explain how as consumers are producing more content online, their reliance on word of mouth recommendations from people they know, or other online customers, in making decisions has increased dramatically.
What this translates to is that people trust other (real) people, even if they havent met these people in person. As social media evangelists we have been telling this to our clients for a long time, and were glad to have our recommendations supported by this report!
